BACKGROUND & AIMS: The intestinal epithelium functions both in nutrient absorption and as a barrier, separating the luminal contents from a network of vascular, fibroblastic, and immune cells underneath. After injury to the intestine, multiple cell populations cooperate to drive regeneration of the mucosal barrier, including lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs). A population of granulocytic immature myeloid cells (IMCs), marked by Hdc, participate in regeneration of multiple organs such as the colon and central nervous system, and their contribution to intestinal regeneration was investigated. METHODS: By using male and female histidine decarboxylase (Hdc) green fluorescent reporter (GFP) mice, we investigated the role of Hdc+ IMCs in intestinal regeneration after exposure to 12 Gy whole-body irradiation. The movement of IMCs was analyzed using flow cytometry and immunostaining. Ablation of Hdc+ cells using the HdcCreERT2 tamoxifen-inducible recombinase Cre system, conditional knockout of Prostaglandin-endoperoxidase synthase 2 (Ptgs2) in Hdc+ cells using HdcCre; Ptgs2 floxed mice, and visualization of LECs using Prox1tdTomato mice also was performed. The role of microbial signals was investigated by knocking down mice gut microbiomes using antibiotic cocktail gavages. RESULTS: We found that Hdc+ IMCs infiltrate the injured intestine after irradiation injury and promote epithelial regeneration in part by modulating LEC activity. Hdc+ IMCs express Ptgs2 (encoding cyclooxygenase-2/COX-2), and enables them to produce prostaglandin E2. Prostaglandin E2 acts on the prostaglandin E2 receptor 4 receptor (EP4) on LECs to promote lymphangiogenesis and induce the expression of proregenerative factors including R-spondin 3. Depletion of gut microbes leads to reduced intestinal regeneration by impaired recruitment of IMCs. CONCLUSIONS: Altogether, our results unveil a critical role for IMCs in intestinal repair by modulating LEC activity and implicate gut microbes as mediators of intestinal regeneration.

BACKGROUND: Population-wide, paraganglioma (PGL) is uncommon. The incidence of Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) ranges from 0.5% to 0.9% and also is an exceedingly rare manifestation of PGL. Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is also uncommon, with an incidence ranging from 1.2% to 4.9%. Herein, we present a case of PGL, TTS, and Markis type I CAE that occured in the same patient. CASE PRESENTATION: A man in his early 40s was admitted to our hospital with a 16-hour history of abdominal colic. Computed tomography and laboratory examination led to the diagnosis of PGL, coronary angiography led to the diagnosis of Markis type I or Chinese type III CAE, and two echocardiographic examinations led to the diagnosis of TTS. When the patient was treated by phenoxybenzamine instead of surgery for the PGL, his blood pressure and glucose level gradually returned to normal. The CAE was treated by thrombolysis, antiplatelet medications, atorvastatin, and myocardial protection therapies. No symptoms of PGL, CAE, or TTS were seen during a 6-month follow-up, and the patient had an excellent quality of life. We confirmed that phenoxybenzamine was the cause of the TTS because paradoxical systolic motion of the apex, inferior wall, left ventricular anterior wall, and interventricular septum were similarly recovered when the PGL was treated by phenoxybenzamine. CONCLUSIONS: To raise awareness of this illness and prevent misdiagnosis, we have herein presented a case of TTS that was brought on by PGL with Markis type I CAE for clinicians' reference. In addition, in clinical practice, we should consider the possibility of a concomitant coronary artery disease even if the TTS is caused by a PGL-induced catecholamine surge.

Background: This study aimed to explore the risk factors and clinical characteristics of granulomatous mastitis (GM) using a case-control study and establish and validate a clinical prediction model (nomogram). Methods: This retrospective case-control study was conducted in three hospitals in China from June 2017 to December 2021. A total of 1634 GM patients and 186 healthy women during the same period were included and randomly divided into the modeling and validation groups in a 7:3 ratio. To identify the independent risk factors of GM, univariate and multivariate logistic analyses were conducted and used to develop a nomogram. The prediction model was internally and externally validated using the Bootstrap technique and validation cohort. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve were used to evaluate the discrimination and calibration of the prediction model. Decision curve analysis (DCA) and clinical impact curve (CIC) were used to evaluate the clinical significance of the model. Results: The average age of GM patients was 33.14 years (mainly 20-40). The incidence was high within five years from delivery and mainly occurred in the unilateral breast. The majority of the patients exhibited local skin alterations, while some also presented with systemic symptoms. On multivariate logistic analysis, age, high prolactin level, sex hormone intake, breast trauma, nipple discharge or invagination, and depression were independent risk factors for GM. The mean area under the curve (AUC) in the modeling and validation groups were 0.899 and 0.889. The internal and external validation demonstrated the model's predictive ability and clinical value. Conclusion: Lactation-related factors are the main risk factors of GM, leading to milk stasis or increased ductal secretion. Meanwhile, hormone disorders could affect the secretion and expansion of mammary ducts. All these factors can obstruct or injure the duct, inducing inflammatory reactions and immune responses. Additionally, blunt trauma, depressed mood, and diet preference can accelerate the process. The nomogram can effectively predict the risk of GM.

Background: Despite the rising incidence rate of granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM), uncertainties persist about its etiologic and predisposing factors to guide clinical treatment and early prevention. The objective of this study is to explore the predisposing factors for GLM. Patients and methods: This case-control study was conducted from 2018 to 2021 at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University. Patients with GLM (cases) were matched with healthy examinees (controls) in a 1:1 ratio according to gender and living area. We analyzed their demographic features and investigated 75 factors that may be relevant to GLM using a standard questionnaire. Univariate and multivariable binary conditional logistic regression analyses were used to compare the differences between the two groups and evaluate the predisposing factors that may induce GLM. Results: There were 594 female GLM patients and 594 matched controls included in the study. The average age of the cases was 32.78 years (mainly 20 to 40). The incidence was high within five years after childbirth, and lesions were mainly in the unilateral breast. Univariate and multivariable conditional logistic regression analyses obtained six relevant factors and six high-risk factors. The six relevant factors included age, marriage, emotional abnormality, high prolactin, psychiatric drug intake, and sex hormone intake. Additionally, the independent high-risk factors for GLM included gestation, nipple invagination, blunt trauma, non-iatrogenic massage, lactation disorder, and nipple discharge (odds ratio (OR)=17.378, 8.518, 4.887, 3.116, 2.522, 1.685, P<0.05). Menopause was an independent protective factor (OR=0.249, P<0.05). Conclusion: The factors that increase milk and secretion production in the mammary duct are the main risk factors of GLM, especially when the nipples are invaginated. These factors can obstruct the duct and induce inflammation. Additionally, hormonal disorders, extrinsic trauma, and emotional abnormalities can accelerate the occurrence of GLM.

BACKGROUND: The authors examined the relationship between Weight-adjusted Waist Index (WWI) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among adults in the US. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 26,882 individuals who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 through 2014. WWI was calculated as waist circumference divided by the square root of weight. The main outcomes of this study were all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. Mortality status and cause of death were determined by NHANES-linked National Death Index records through December 31, 2015. Cox proportional hazard models and Kaplan-Meier analysis were used to estimate Hazard Ratios (HR) and 95% CIs for mortality for all causes and cardiovascular diseases. RESULTS: A total of 26,882 participants with a mean WWI of 10.89 ± 0.01, of whom 49.23% were male. The average follow-up time was 68.95 ± 1.07 months, and 1870 participants were determined as deceased (4.99%), including 349 cardiovascular death (0.88%). The Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated a significant difference in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality between patients with WWI <11.33 and ≥11.33 (both log-rank test p < 0.0001). The fully adjusted Cox proportional hazard model indicated that a higher WWI level (≥ 11.33) was associated with an increased 95% risk for cardiovascular mortality (HR = 1.95, 95% CI 1.30‒2.93) and 68% risk for all-cause death (HR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.41‒2.00) compared with the counterparts. CONCLUSIONS: Elevated WWI levels were associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality independently.

PURPOSE: Laparotomic or hysteroscopic myomectomy, and high-intensity focussed ultrasound (HIFU), can be used in the treatment of Type 2 myomas with a > 50% intramural component. Hysteroscopic electroresection may damage the remaining endometrium and complete ablation of myomas may not be realised via HIFU treatment. We report and examine the results of 1 case of HIFU treatment, accompanied with the hysteroscopy endo-operative system (HEOS) cold device procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: These were used for treating a > 4cm diameter Type 2 uterine myoma and ensuring successful pregnancy. HIFU treatment of uterine myomas can achieve point-by-point ablation of lesions as far as possible without damaging the endometrium. The HEOS cold device procedure was implemented 3 months after HIFU treatment. RESULTS: The patient got pregnant naturally in the third month after receiving treatment, with no complications during her pregnancy. The patient gave birth to a healthy male via full-term cesarean section. CONCLUSIONS: HIFU treatment, accompanied with the HEOS cold device procedure, ensured complete myoma removal. It also preserved the integrity of the myometrium and prevented uterine perforation during surgery.


For the patient who had a large uterine myoma and wanted to achieve pregnancy soon, HIFU accompanied with the HEOS cold device procedure could ensure complete myoma removal, whilst preserving the integrity of myometrium and preventing uterine perforation during surgery.

BACKGRUOUND: The common reference intervals (RIs) for thyroid hormones currently used in China are provided by equipment manufacturers. This study aimed to establish thyroid hormone RIs in the population of Lanzhou, a city in the subplateau region of northwest China, and compare them with previous reports and manufacturer-provided values. METHODS: In total, 3,123 individuals (1,680 men, 1,443 women) from Lanzhou, an iodine-adequate area of China, perceived as healthy were selected. The Abbott Architect analyzer was used to determine the serum concentration of thyroid hormones. The 95% RI was estimated using the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles as the lower and upper reference limits, respectively. RESULTS: The serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total triiodothyronine (TT3), antithyroglobulin (ATG) antibody, and antithyroid peroxidase (ATPO) antibody levels were significantly correlated with sex (P<0.05). TSH, total thyroxine (TT4), and ATPO levels were significantly correlated with age (P<0.05). The serum levels of TSH, ATG, and ATPO in men were significantly lower than in women; in contrast, the serum TT3 level was significantly higher in men than in women (P<0.05). Serum TSH, TT3, TT4, and ATG levels differed across age groups (P<0.05), but no such variation was observed for ATG levels (P>0.05). The established RIs of TSH, ATG, and ATPO in this study differed between sexes (P<0.05). The thyroid hormone RIs established herein were inconsistent with the manufacturer-provided values. CONCLUSION: The RIs of thyroid hormones in the healthy population of Lanzhou were inconsistent with those in the manufacturer's manual. Validated sex-specific values are required for diagnosing thyroid diseases.

AIM: High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-invasive treatment of adenomyosis. Uterine rupture during pregnancy is a rare adverse event after HIFU treatment, because HIFU treatment results in tissue coagulative necrosis. METHODS: We reported a case of uterine rupture in a 34-year-old woman. The woman had HIFU treatment for adenomyosis eight months before unplanned pregnancy. She was closely monitored during the pregnancy and the antenatal course was uneventful. At the gestational age of 38 weeks and 2 days, an emergency lower segment cesarean section was performed because of inexplainable abdominal pain. After delivery of the fetus, a 2 × 2 cm serous membrane rupture was observed in the HIFU treatment area. CONCLUSION: Uterine rupture during pregnancy after HIFU is a rare adverse event, however, attention is required during the whole pregnancy in case of unexpected uterine rupture.

The scarcity of high electrocatalysis composite electrode materials has long been suppressing the redox reaction of V(II)/V(III) and V(IV)/V(V) couples in high performance vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). Herein, through ingeniously regulating the growth of Aspergillus Niger, a wrinkle-like carbon (WLC) material that possesses edge-rich carbon, abundant heteroatoms, and nature wrinkle-like structure is obtained, which is subsequently successfully introduced and uniform dispersed on the surface of carbon fiber of graphite felt (GF). This composite electrode presents a lower overpotential and higher charge transfer ability, as the codoped multiheteroatoms increase the electrocatalysis activity and the wrinkled structure affords more abundant reaction area for vanadium ions in the electrolyte when compared with the pristine GF electrode, which is also supported by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Hence, the assembled battery using WLC electrodes achieves a high energy efficiency of 74.5% for 300 cycles at a high current density of 200 mA cm-2 , as well as the highest current density of 450 mA cm-2 . The WLC material not only uncovers huge potential in promoting the application of VRFBs, but also offers referential solution to synthesis microorganism-based high-performance electrode in other energy storage systems.

The intestinal epithelium functions both in nutrient absorption and as a barrier, separating the luminal contents from a network of vascular, fibroblastic, and immune cells underneath. Following injury to the intestine, multiple different cell populations cooperate to drive regeneration of the mucosa. Immature myeloid cells (IMCs), marked by histidine decarboxylase ( Hdc ), participate in regeneration of multiple organs such as the colon and central nervous system. Here, we found that IMCs infiltrate the injured intestine and promote epithelial regeneration and modulate LEC activity. IMCs produce prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which promotes LEC lymphangiogenesis and upregulation of pro-regenerative factors including RSPO3. Moreover, we found that IMC recruitment into the intestine is driven by invading microbial signals. Accordingly, antibiotic eradication of the intestinal microbiome prior to WB-IR inhibits IMC recruitment, and consequently, intestinal recovery. We propose that IMCs play a critical role in intestinal repair and implicate gut microbes as mediators of intestinal regeneration.

Although molecular biology has made great progress in recent years, the detection rate of mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is still not ideal. This study aimed to evaluate the role of prognostic inflammatory index (PII) and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) in the auxiliary diagnosis of bacteria-negative pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Sixty patients diagnosed with bacteria-negative pulmonary TB at the Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University between October 2019 and September 2022 were randomly selected as the case group, and seventy patients with nontuberculous pulmonary infection in the same department of the same hospital during the same period were randomly selected as the control group. Baseline data and values of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), lymphocyte count (LY), neutrophil count (NE), monocyte count (MO), albumin (ALB), prealbumin (PA), C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen (FIB), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), PII, and SIRI were compared between the 2 groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of PII and SIRI in the diagnosis of bacteria-negative pulmonary TB. No significant differences were found between the 2 groups in terms of sex and age (P > .05); however significant differences were observed in relation to body mass index (BMI), ESR, LY, NE, MO, ALB, PA, CRP, FIB, NLR, PII, and SIRI (P < .05). ROC curve analysis showed that area under curve (AUC) value {0.84 [95% CI (0.77, 0.90)]} and specificity {82.86% [95% CI (72.0, 90.8)]} of PII were the highest, while the sensitivity {86.67 [95% CI (75.4, 94.1)]} of NLR + PII was the highest. Pairwise comparison of the 7 indicators of ROC curve was performed, and only the diagnostic efficiency of NLR and NLR + PII was statistically significant (Z = 2.36, P = .02 < .05). NLR, PII, SIRI, pairwise combinations, and NLR + PII + SIRI showed auxiliary diagnostic values for bacteria-negative pulmonary TB, among which PII had the highest diagnostic value and specificity, while NLR + PII had the highest sensitivity.

Nonylphenol (NP) is a typical environmental endocrine disruptor with estrogenic effects. It serves as an emulsifier and as the main ingredient of detergents and has become an increasingly common pollutant in both fresh and salt water, vegetables, and fruits. This study aimed to clarify whether NP exposure could lead to cognitive dysfunction and synaptic plasticity impairment, and also explore the mechanism of microRNA (miR)- 219a-5p regulation of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) in NP-induced synaptic plasticity impairment in vivo and in vitro. In vivo, 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: blank control group (pure corn oil) and NP-exposed group [NP 80 mg/(kg·d)], with 15 rats in each group. In vitro, the extracted hippocampal neurons were divided into 6 groups: blank control group, mimics NC group, miR-219 mimics group, NP group (70 µmol/L NP), NP + mimics NC group, and NP + miR-219 mimics group. In vivo, the content of NP in hippocampal tissues after 90 days of NP exposure was significantly higher in the NP-stained group than in the blank control group. NP exposure could lead to a decrease in the ability to learn and memory, ability to remember, and space spatial memory ability in rats. The dendrites in the NP-stained group were disordered, with few dendritic spines and significantly decreased dendritic spine density. The postsynaptic densities were loosely arranged, the thickness and length of the postsynaptic densities shortened, and the length and width of the synaptic gap increased. Glutamine (Glu) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) contents in hippocampal tissues decreased in the NP-stained group. The expression of miR-219a-5p mRNA decreased in the NP-stained group after 3 months of NP exposure. The expression of NMDAR1, NMDAR2A, NMDAR2B, nerve growth-associated protein (GAP-43), and Ca/calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII) mRNA/proteins decreased in the NP-stained group. In vitro, NMDAR protein expression decreased, while GAP-43 and CaMKII protein expression increased in the miR-219 mimics group compared with the control group. The expression levels of NMDAR and GAP-43 and CaMKII proteins were higher in the NP + miR-219 mimics group compared with the NP group. The levels of neurotransmitters Glu and GABA decreased in the NP and NP + mimics NC groups compared with the blank group. Shortened synaptic active band length, decreased thickness of postsynaptic densities, and shortened length of postsynaptic densities were observed in the NP, NP + mimics NC, and NP + miR-219 mimics groups compared with the blank control group. In vivo, NP exposure reduced learning memory capacity and neurotransmitter content in rats and caused a decrease in dendritic spine density and synaptic number density and a decrease in miR-219a-5p expression. In vitro, high expression of miR-219a-5p inhibited the expression of NMDAR, thus reducing the effect of NP on synaptic plasticity impairment in hippocampal neurons. Our study provided a scientific basis for the prevention of cognitive impairment owing to NP exposure and the development of targeted drug treatment strategies.

Professional service firms apply specialist knowledge to create customised solutions to client problems. In their work, teams of professionals undertake projects in which clients may be closely involved in co-creating solutions. However, we know little about the conditions under which client involvement contributes to better performance. We examine the direct and conditional contribution client involvement can make to project success and propose team bonding capital as a moderator. We conduct multi-level analysis of data from 58 project managers and 171 consultants nested in project teams. We find a positive impact of client involvement on both team performance and team member idea creativity. Team bonding capital moderates the relationships client involvement has with both team performance and individual member idea creativity, where the impact of client involvement is greater when team bonding capital is high. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

AIM: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and lacks effective treatment options. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is a critical defense against oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver injury. This study aims to investigate the protective role and underlying mechanisms of HO-1 in NASH pathogenesis. METHODS: The hepatocyte-specific HO-1 knockout (HO-1HEPKO ) mice on a C57BL/6J background (HO-1fl/fl /Alb-Cre) were generated and fed a high-fat/western-style diet (HFD) or methionine-choline-deficient diet (MCD). Changes in mitochondrial ultrastructure were observed by transmission electron microscopy and confocal microscopy. A mitochondrial PCR array was used to identify the crucial genes associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. RESULTS: Hepatocyte-specific HO-1HEPKO mice developed steatohepatitis with severe steatosis, ballooning, and necroinflammation. Dysregulated hepatic expression of mitochondria-related proteins, including DRP1, Tomm20, MFN1 and MFN2 were detected in NASH animals. Ultrastructural mitochondrial damage was observed in HO-1HEPKO mice. Mitochondrial dysfunction was recapitulated in HO-1-knockdown cells in vitro, as evidenced by decreased membrane potential, reduced ATP content, and mtDNA damage. Conversely, HO-1 overexpression restored these changes in vitro. Mechanistically, HO-1 deficiency reduced the inhibitory effect on Tomm20, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, and thereby causing steatohepatitis. CONCLUSIONS: HO-1 attenuates diet-induced steatohepatitis by preventing mitochondrial dysfunction, indicating that HO-1 may constitute a potential therapeutic target for NASH.

Abstract Background The authors examined the relationship between Weight-adjusted Waist Index (WWI) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among adults in the US. Methods This prospective cohort study included 26,882 individuals who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 through 2014. WWI was calculated as waist circumference divided by the square root of weight. The main outcomes of this study were all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. Mortality status and cause of death were determined by NHANES-linked National Death Index records through December 31, 2015. Cox proportional hazard models and Kaplan-Meier analysis were used to estimate Hazard Ratios (HR) and 95% CIs for mortality for all causes and cardiovascular diseases. Results A total of 26,882 participants with a mean WWI of 10.89 ± 0.01, of whom 49.23% were male. The average follow-up time was 68.95 ± 1.07 months, and 1870 participants were determined as deceased (4.99%), including 349 cardiovascular death (0.88%). The Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated a significant difference in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality between patients with WWI <11.33 and ≥11.33 (both log-rank testp < 0.0001). The fully adjusted Cox proportional hazard model indicated that a higher WWI level (≥ 11.33) was associated with an increased 95% risk for cardiovascular mortality (HR = 1.95, 95% CI 1.30‒2.93) and 68% risk for all-cause death (HR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.41‒2.00) compared with the counterparts. Conclusions Elevated WWI levels were associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality independently.

Background@#The common reference intervals (RIs) for thyroid hormones currently used in China are provided by equipment manufacturers. This study aimed to establish thyroid hormone RIs in the population of Lanzhou, a city in the subplateau region of northwest China, and compare them with previous reports and manufacturer-provided values. @*Methods@#In total, 3,123 individuals (1,680 men, 1,443 women) from Lanzhou, an iodine-adequate area of China, perceived as healthy were selected. The Abbott Architect analyzer was used to determine the serum concentration of thyroid hormones. The 95% RI was estimated using the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles as the lower and upper reference limits, respectively. @*Results@#The serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total triiodothyronine (TT3), antithyroglobulin (ATG) antibody, and antithyroid peroxidase (ATPO) antibody levels were significantly correlated with sex (P0.05). The established RIs of TSH, ATG, and ATPO in this study differed between sexes (P<0.05). The thyroid hormone RIs established herein were inconsistent with the manufacturer-provided values. @*Conclusion@#The RIs of thyroid hormones in the healthy population of Lanzhou were inconsistent with those in the manufacturer’s manual. Validated sex-specific values are required for diagnosing thyroid diseases.

The transmission of satellite payload data is critical for services provided by aerospace ground networks. To ensure the correctness of data transmission, the TCP data transmission protocol has been used typically. However, the standard TCP congestion control algorithm is incompatible with networks with a long time delay and a large bandwidth, resulting in low throughput and resource waste. This article compares recent studies on TCP-based acceleration algorithms and proposes an acceleration algorithm based on the learning of historical characteristics, such as end-to-end delay and its variation characteristics, the arrival interval of feedback packets (ACK) at the receiving end and its variation characteristics, the degree of data packet reversal and its variation characteristics, delay and jitter caused by the security equipment's deep data inspection, and random packet loss caused by various factors. The proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with the TCP congestion control algorithms under both laboratory and ground network conditions. Experimental results indicate that the proposed acceleration algorithm is efficient and can significantly increase throughput. Therefore, it has a promising application prospect in high-speed data transmission in aerospace-ground service networks.

This study investigated the effect of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on the neural mechanism of visual perception. A preliminary case-control study was conducted. Seventeen patients with moderate to severe OSA in the sleep center of Civil Aviation General Hospital and 20 healthy controls matched for age, sex, and education were recruited. The participants accepted the perceptual contour integration task, compared the differences in behavioral indicators between the two groups, and compared the differences in electroencephalography (EEG) data between the two groups through event-related potential (ERP) technology. The groups did not differ significantly in age and gender, but they differed significantly in body mass index (BMI) (OSA higher than healthy controls, p < 0.05). The groups were not statistically different in terms of sleep structure and total sleep time. AHI, sleep efficiency, and minimal SaO2 value in the OSA group were significantly different from those of the control group. The results showed that the average reaction time of the OSA group was significantly longer than that of the healthy control group in the contour integration task. There was no significant difference in the accuracy rate. The results of EEG showed that the amplitudes of N100 of the OSA group were significantly higher than those of the control group at O1, Oz, and O2 electrodes. There was no significant difference in latency between the two groups. At the FCz electrode, the amplitudes of N200 of the OSA group were significantly higher than those of the control group. Therefore, we concluded that in the early stage of the perceptual integration task, although the neural response activity of patients with moderate and severe OSA was not accelerated, they need to call on more psychological resources, activate more neurons in the contour global recognition processing stage, and the compensatory effect of frontal lobe appeared in the stage of visual perception.

Bone tissue engineering has emerged as a promising restorative strategy for bone reconstruction and bone defect repair. It is challenging to establish an appropriate scaffold with an excellent porous microstructure for bone defects and thereby promote bone repair. In this study, electrospinning as a simple and efficient technology was employed to fabricate a porous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) (P34HB) scaffold coated with lecithin. The morphology, phase composition, and physical properties of the electrospun P34HB/lec scaffold were characterized. Meanwhile, cellular behaviors of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), including proliferation, adhesion, migration, osteogenic differentiation, and related gene expression, were also investigated. Finally, a rat subcutaneous implant model and a calvarial defect model were used to evaluated the biocompatibility and effect of these scaffolds on bone repair, respectively. The in vitro results demonstrated that these electrospun fibers were interwoven with each other to form the porous P34HB/lec scaffold and the addition of lecithin improved the hydrophilicity of the pure P34HB scaffold, enhanced the efficiency of cell migration, and decreased inflammatory response. Furthermore, the in vivo results showed that P34HB/lec scaffold had excellent biocompatibility, improved the vascularization, and promoted the bone regeneration. All these results indicated that nanofibers of P34HB scaffolds in combination with the lecithin could exert a synergistic effect on promoting osteogenesis and regeneration of bone defects; thus, the P34HB scaffold with lecithin showed great application potential for bone tissue engineering.

Objective@#Refine and understand the characteristics of different types of bystanders, in order to maximize the exploitation and utilization of bystanders as potential resources for anti bullying, so as to provide more targeted guidance for the formulation of intervention programs.@*Methods@#In this study, 1 279 students from two middle schools in Beijing and Anhui Province and two high schools in Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were administered with Participation Role Questionnaire (PRQ) and Peer Nomination Questionnaire.@*Results@#There was a significant difference between male and female in the role of onlooker( χ 2=96.92, P <0.01). Female students were more likely to play the role of defender and outsider, while male students were more likely to play the role of reinforcer( χ 2=31.87, P =0.01). And there were significant differences in the distribution of bystander roles in different grades. The chi square test results were( χ 2=456.26, P <0.01).@*Conclusion@#The bystander plays an important role in the occurrence of bullying incidents. It is an important direction of school bullying intervention programs to promote the positive transformation from passive bystander to active bystander.
